In the special one-hour premiere episode, Nick reveals that he is at a professional and personal turning point in his life and is ready to put the past behind him. Aaron is looking to leave behind his teen pop star image and dedicate himself to producing, writing and re-launching his recording career. Leslie, who has not seen some of her siblings in years, is also a singer and has been living in Toronto with her boyfriend, the drummer for her band. Angel, Aaron's twin, has been living in Florida and plans to focus on a modeling career when she moves to the west coast. Bobbie Jean, the oldest Carter sister, does not know what she wants from life, but knows that show biz is not for her. A culinary career has grabbed her interest lately and, while she might find a great school to attend, getting to classes will be a whole different story.
The goals are set and the good intentions are there, but nothing comes easily for the Carter family. Nick is often stuck between playing the role of big brother and domineering dad, as he tries to encourage his siblings to act like adults, stop partying and own up to their responsibilities. But it doesn't take Nick long to figure out that his brother and sisters don't like to be bossed around, and the siblings have a long road ahead as they try to create a civil atmosphere in the house.
Bobbie Jean and Angel are very close, which leads Leslie to feel like the sister that is forever odd-man-out. Aaron wants to live his own life by his own rules, which often infuriates Nick. The brothers are supportive of each other... except when they don't agree. And Bobbie Jean's wild ways have all of her brothers and sisters concerned.

Bobbie Jean, Leslie and Angel were often left behind, as their parents toured with Nick and Aaron for months at a time. Aaron's widely publicized petition for legal emancipation from his mother made tabloid headlines, as did their parent's divorce in 2004.
Since then the Carter kids have been living disparate and disjointed lives, and Nick feels it's his job as the oldest of the five siblings to step up to the plate and bring them back together after 10 years of being apart. With just the right combination of motivation, direction and brotherly love, Nick hopes to support his brother and sisters as they pursue personal and career ambitions and help them rediscover the strength of family.
